High CPU Usage Update For The Softphone

You may experience high CPU usage when you use your Phone Power Softphone application.


  • To check to see if the Softphone is causing this issue, press the ctrl-shift-escape keys together to open task manager.
 - In task manager, click the Processes tab, click on the column header CPU to order by CPU usage.  
 - Now look for either PhonePower.exe or Services.exe.  
 - These two should not be using much more CPU than other processes running on the PC.

  • If you find that these processes are using a high amount of the CPU, you can follow these steps to resolve the issue.


  • Locating the Softphone installation:
 - Find where you installed the Softphone on your computer. 
 - The default folder that it is installed in is c:\programfiles\phonepower\
 - Once you have located and have that folder open, locate the Plugins folder
 - Now you should be in the Plugin folder, in there change all the .dll at the end of each file to .bak

  • Once you have made the .dll to .bak changes finished, close down and restart the Softphone application.
 - This should resolve any issue with experiencing the CPU usage spiking.
 - To check on this open the task manager and locate the PhonePower.exe and Services.exe processes.
    - Now the CPU usage should drop to a normal level. 


  • If you still notice the CPU usage spiking when you are using the Softphone please contact technical support at 888-607-6937 option 3.


  • Please be aware that this is a temporary solution. Our development team is currently finalizing a permanent resolution for this issue.
