The problem with voice-mail transcription is that it would be another expense to PP and since Vonage charges more would be easier for them to recoup. You could always use Google Voice in the meantime which is free or YouMail. YouMail charges for transcriptions because they are edited by a human. JHMO I don't think you see feature for a long time if ever?
That is a logical request SeanSF, it would be a welcome feature. When I used Vonage it was great to have.
I agree, I would like to see it as well. Just expressing why I don't see PP rolling out the feature anytime soon due to the added expense and complexity. Curious as to why you both left Vonage, you both seem to miss the feature. So what made you both switch to PP knowing that they did not offer this feature?
I've forwarded this request to our development team.
I can't guarantee if it is physically possible with our current infrastructure or (if it is) how long it would take to research and implement.
At the very least they know there is a growing demand.
I have seen this feature free before when I was surfing the web. It was a voice mailbox only, but maybe the PP line could be forwarded after so many rings to a number where the free service is offered. If you Google around, maybe you can find it. I came across a couple text voice mail services about 2 months ago when I was searching for a new VOIP provider.
I never bit when Vonage offered this feature, there was no way I was going to pay for it because I thought it was silly. However, when Vonage gave it to me for "free", I did bite. I can live without it and I still consider it a bit of a novelty, but it is handy sometimes especially when I can't listen to my voicemail with my earbuds and I just have a browser. We have a friend from Eastern Europe who doesn't speak the best English and it's pretty comical to see how her speech is translated. However, if PP offered this as a free feature and it didn't bump the cost of their service up, I'd probably use it again.
I loved this feature with Vonage which I have had for several years. It was my biggest criteria for choosing and alternative vendor such as Phonepower. Although I couldn't find this feature clearly identified on their website I was assured twice by 2 different customer email inquiries that the feature is present and easy to use. Now that I am a customer I suddenly learn that this feature is in fact not present. I only blame myself for not checking closely enough and reading this forum entry earlier but am still upset and considering leaving the service although in most other respects it looks to me like a good alternative to Vonage. I sent a complaint email and they acknowledged that I was given incorrect information twice but there was nothing they could do to help me so now I am stuck since my phone number has just been transferred to Phonepower and it's a hassle to switch to another alternative that may provide this service.
Where does PhonePower indicate they have voicemail to text feature? Did not even know they claimed to offer it.
Having used other services in business the feature seldom works really well. Though you can guess at the message for the most part but the technology is still not very reliable.
YouMail makes a great 3rd party voice-mail solution. All that is needed is to setup call forwarding after X amount of seconds to the access # YouMail gives to you. I must give my peeps a heads up, sometimes you may get the following message (see link) however that can easily be fixed http://support.youmail.com/entries/384574-enter-your-10-digit-number-prompt-error
I have used their transcription plans and they are best thing going compared to the competition. They can be human edited @ no extra charge or the uber paranoid can-opt out of human transcriptions and let the servers only transcribe it.

Hope this helps? However nothing beats a knowledgeable live body answering your calls. :) We all know PhonePower got that right! Since I don't want any peeps getting an in-personal machine, I got the best of both worlds with my answering service.
BTW if you sign up for a free trial for Read-It within a couple weeks they usually cut a 40% deal via e-mail. 12.00 to have the first 60 seconds of 100 messages transcribed per month is a pretty sweet deal!
