Phone Power softphone update is now in open beta!!!

Its finally here, and we hope we have scratched all the itches you have told us about:

  • Mac Support. Yep real honest to goodness mac support. The exact same fully tested andpolished softphone, but this time on OSX. We always felt a tad hypocritical for offering an iphone app but no Mac softphone, and now we dont feel nearly as bad.
  • Call recording is even easier. Our softphone always did call recording, but now it can be enabled from within a call with a single click, and will just default to your desktop (or documents library for mac users).
  • Outlook integration: This one obviously only applies to windows users BUT it means any user in your contacts can be dialed with a simple right-click
  • CallTo URL integration: anything on your system that formats a phone number in callto url format, our softphone can trap and turn into a click2call. This means if you use Zimbra mesaging suite for email, any phone number in your contacts and email just became click-able, or you can use a browser plugin such as telify for firefox to make all phone numbers you see on the internet into call-to URLs that the softphone can trap and make dialing anything 10x easier.
  • Enhanced compatibility: We used to use a system browser for the embedded portal and system integration but now we carry our own so the experience should be much more uniform regardless of what system browser plugins etc you have.
  • Easeir to navigate: We took the feedback about the most commonly used items in the UI and moved them to make them easier to reach. You can now change audio devices just by clicking on the speaker or mic icons and selecting your audio device. No need to go digging in options anymore.
  • Speedier portal: The portal navigation experience has been sped up signifigantly thanks to heavy optimization of the embedded rendering engine.
  • Call Transfer: Our business users have been asking for this one and now you have it. * Users on the Aquarius network will need to have this feature activated for them
  • Updated UI: We re-skinned and re-sized the UI to make it less obtrusive and overall make better use of real-estate. This means it now fits easily on most netbook sized screen resolutions for maximum mobility and takes up less precious space on your desktop without any loss in functionality.
  • Added a delete key to the dial windows: Users making use of our softphone on a touch-screen PC environment were clamoring for a touch-able delete key, so we gave you one.

Our biggest focus in this release has been to take our softphone and make its integration and use as seamless and natural as possible. To us an application is a tool, not the destination itself, and the best tool in the world is one that does its job without you thinking about it, such as your TV remote, you use it, but unconsciously, with the focus instead being on what you want to do. Our softphones job is to facilitate communication, and the more time you spend rummaging around inside it is time that you aren’t using it to communicate with friends, family or colleagues, so that is all time it isn’t working like it should.

To download it, you can login to my account and go to the softphone page, where a beta link should be available.

Happy calling!

I downloaded the softphone for Mac and installed it , but when I try to launch the app it has a run time error “PhonePower quit unexpectedly”.

  2. Jon says:

I just downloaded the Mac beta this morning. If it is updated, the updated version is also crashing on launch. The date on the file downloaded from the soft phone beta section of the account page is 11/28 at 1:08PM. MD5 (SoftphoneBetaInstaller.dmg) = 848bc54f92d3c730720a723711580e8b

  3. Saibal says:

Just downloaded on a MAC. Seems to work fine.
However, the contacts page is not showing properly. Only the first page shows up and after some fiddling around the subsequent page hyperlinks show up at the bottom. This must be a bug.

  4. Deepak Bhatt says:

on my laptops using softphone I tried to call someone using both wifi and eathernet cable but after 15 seconds conversation on the the phone gets cut-off. On one laptop I have Windows XP and on another Windows & Home premium> Please tell me how to make it to work. Thanks.

  5. Bob says:

Softphone beta (dated 12/2/11) also crashes on startup on my new macBook Pro running Lion.

  6. Bryan T says:

I like the new softphone for Mac. FINALLY! Took it out for a test drive and it left me with some questions:
    1. Is the call record feature enabled on this version (which I believe is still a beta)? I can’t get it to operate.
    2. Is there a way to choose where you want the sound and mic to route and from? For example, I have a USB headset that I want to use for the softphone, but the software only seems to default to the built-in monitor speakers and mic, resulting in an echo on the call. It makes this default despite by choosing my system preferences on the Mac.

    • RyanD says:

      Bryan,
The call recording feature is active. If you are having difficulties, feel free to reach out to support, since if it is a defect we will want to collect details on any problems.

You can click on the microphone or speaker icons, and they will give you a selection of audio devices to choose from.

  7. Brent Michalski says:

Using softphone on OSX Lion. Worked 2 weeks ago just fine. Now when I start it I get a pop-up that says “provisioning failed”.

I tried reinstalling but that did not help. Any ideas?

    • RyanD says:

Our support department should be reaching out to work with you on this issue.

    • Rob M says:

I am having the same issue. A few weeks ago the softphone worked on my Mac running OSX Lion with out an issue. I went to use the phone today and I too get the “Provisioning Failed (server response code 302) – Unknown. I then check the information in the Preference area and I do not see my account details? Where did they go???

  8. Jason says:

My Trial Expired? I thought this was part of the service, why did my trial expire?

    • RyanD says:

As we progressed through various beta builds we included expirations to help keep beta users on the latest version.

Simply uninstall it and download the latest release from the account portal. What is up there now is a release candidate and will no longer expire.

  9. Bob Long says:

The new Softphone works fine. A Few suggestions:
    1) It would be very helpful to add a REDIAL BUTTON, or have the * or # function as a redial
    2) It would be helpful to have names on the speedial numbers, but the new list of contacts may serve that function

    • RyanD says:

If you right click on the softphone you will notice a redial option in the menu.

As for speed dial names, that is on our feature request list.

      • Vikas says:

        HI Ryan,
I have also requested for a beta trial version but never got any thing. Could you please send me the software. I am very eagerly waiting for this android app. Thanks,
        Vikas

  10. Christina says:

I used the softphone on OSX Lion and it worked fine. Now I get a pop-up that says “provisioning failed (server response code 302)”. I’ve since upgraded to Mountain Lion and tried reinstalling but still get the same error.

    • Osman says:

I installed the software on my MAC with OSX 10.8.2 and have the same “provisioning failed (server response code 302)” error code. How can I fix it?

      Thanks
